VR Walkthroughs in School and Campus Projects
School and campus VR walkthroughs are built for three audiences: voters and boards deciding on a bond or capital request, teachers and staff reviewing whether the classrooms and support spaces actually work, and families choosing a school. The public funding context makes accuracy a governance requirement rather than a preference, so everything conditional on funding has to be labeled as conditional.
Education projects are the case where the audience most needs to see the building and is least equipped to read the drawings.
That is a strong argument for virtual reality, and also the reason the depiction has to be conservative.
Bond and board use sets the accuracy standard
If a community approves funding after seeing a space, that space becomes an expectation. Anything shown as included and later value engineered out is a credibility problem for the district, not for the design team.
The workable practice is explicit: build the base scope as committed, build alternates as clearly labeled alternates, and never blend the two in a single continuous experience without on-screen labeling.
Teacher and staff review finds the real problems
Teachers evaluating a classroom in a headset ask about things that never appear in a design review: where students line up, sightlines from the teaching wall to every seat, whether the door position works during a lockdown, where coats and bags go, whether the sink is reachable during instruction.
Rooms built for a single program produce the sharpest feedback of all. Science labs, art rooms, band and shop spaces have workflow requirements that only the people who teach in them will catch.
The spaces worth building
The typical classroom, because it is repeated most. One or two special-program rooms where the program is unusual. The commons, cafeteria or media center, because that is the space families and voters picture. The arrival and secure entry sequence, because it is what parents ask about first.
A whole campus in a headset is rarely the right spend. Representative spaces plus a site overview covers the actual questions.
Community meeting logistics
A headset serves one person at a time and a community meeting has two hundred. Plan for a station with a queue and a screen mirroring what the person in the headset sees, so the room watches while one person navigates. Without the mirror screen you have entertained twelve people and informed nobody.

What to keep out of it
Recognizable students or staff. Branding for programs that are not funded. Any depiction of a space that depends on a grant that has not been awarded. In a public process each of those turns into a question you have to answer in front of a room.
