How to Choose a VR Vendor for Architectural Projects

How to Choose a VR Vendor for Architectural Projects

Choosing a VR vendor for architectural work comes down to checking their portfolio for real deployed projects, confirming which headsets and platforms they support, and verifying they can work from your existing CAD or BIM files without a costly rebuild.

Start with proof of real deployments

A polished demo video is not the same as a working sales-floor or design-review deployment. Ask for examples of projects that actually shipped to a client site, and if possible, ask to try the experience yourself on the intended hardware.

Confirm technical compatibility early

The vendor should be able to work directly from your existing architectural files, whether that is Revit, SketchUp, or another format, without requiring your team to rebuild the model from scratch. Ask specifically how they handle file conversion and what gets lost or simplified in that process.

Match the vendor to your actual use case

A vendor strong in design-review tools for internal architecture teams is not automatically the right fit for a consumer-facing sales VR experience, and vice versa. Clarify your primary use case upfront so the vendor's proposal is built around it rather than a generic package.

Questions to ask before you decide

  • Can you show a project that is actually deployed and in use, not just a demo reel?
  • How do you handle converting our existing CAD or BIM files, and what changes in that process?
  • What ongoing support is included if something breaks after deployment?
